Learn How to make Greek gyro meat

With pita bread and tomatoes this Greek style meat loaf is cut down and served that makes a delicious gyro. The preparation time seems long, but most of it is resting time so you can be doing other stuff! You can substitute chicken for the ground lamb and beef if you prefer.




Ingredients


  • 1/2 onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon ground dried rosemary
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Add all ingredients to list
Chop an onion in food processor. Scoop the chopped onion in the center of the towel and squeeze out the liquid from the onions. Along with beef and lamb put onions in mixing bowl. Season it with oregano, marjoram, garlic, cumin, rosemary, black pepper, salt, and thyme. Mix it well with your hands until it is well combined. Put it in the refrigerator for 1 or 2 hours for allowing flavors to blend.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

Put the mixture of meat into the food processor and chop it until the mixture feels tacky. In the loaf pan of 7X4 inch pack the meat mixture. Just double check there are no air pockets. With the use of damp kitchen towel line a roasting pan. Put the load in the towel, in the roasting pan and put it in the oven. Fill the roasting pan with boiling water till it reaches halfway up the sides. Keep on baking until the gyro meat is no longer remains pink and on the thermometer, temperature goes to 165 degrees F. It will take around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Pour off any accumulated fat and cool it down slightly before cutting out slices and serving.
